Reproduction Pieces of Eight Coin
Spanish coins were used in the American colonies in the eighteenth century. This "piece of eight" could be fractioned into halves or quarters. These museum-quality replica coins are spin cast out of lead-free pewter.
Newport was an important colonial city, with a thriving seaport, skilled craftsman community, and internationally-known merchant class. Much of this prominence was tied to the trans-Atlantic trade of Newport’s seagoing merchants. These merchants frequently interacted with businessmen and politicians from other nations, and would have been comfortable with foreign currencies and exchange rates.
